About Us

The Veterans Financial Coalition is a new coalition of diverse organizations formed to serve the financial needs of veterans returning to civilian life. The Veterans Financial Coalition announced its formation with founding members Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE), Consumer Action, Consumer Federation of America and Visa's Practical Money Skills for Life. The organization came together in June 2014 to assist and promote resources to a growing population of veterans, provide financial education for veterans and community organizations serving veterans, and raise awareness for the unique financial challenges our nation's veterans face. New coalition members joined in November 2014 including Call For Action, Inc., National Consumers League, National Foundation for Credit Counseling, Inc.® and National Military Family Association joined in January 2015.

Volunteer professionals in offices around the world are trained to assist consumers through mediation and education to resolve problems with businesses, government agencies, and other organizations. Our services are free and confidential and available to all individuals and small businesses.

Military Saves

Military Saves, a component of the nonprofit America Saves and a partner in the Department of Defense's Financial Readiness Campaign, seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. The research-based campaign uses the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. Military Saves encourages all servicemembers, their families, and civilian employees to take the Military Saves pledge and for organizations to promote savings year-round and during Military Saves Week. Savers who take the pledge can opt to receive a monthly e-newsletter from Military Saves, as well as a quarterly e-newsletter from America Saves. Military Saves also works with FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the defense credit unions, military banks and other non-profit organizations to promote savings and debt reduction.

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling® (NFCC®), founded in 1951, is the nation's largest and longest-serving nonprofit financial counseling organization. The NFCC's mission is to promote the national agenda for financially responsible behavior, and build capacity for its members to deliver the highest-quality financial education and counseling services. The membership is currently composed of over 80 member agencies, 600 local offices and 2,000 professionally certified counselors and educators in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. All NFCC Members practice comprehensive and holistic counseling tailored to the unique needs of each client. This entails general financial counseling and budget preparation, credit and debt counseling, housing counseling (including pre-purchase counseling), bankruptcy counseling or any combination of these or other counseling; and education disciplines, such as financial literacy, in one-on-one and group settings. Services are offered in person, via the telephone, and in some instances available over the Internet using web-based applications. Since 2010, NFCC Members have provided quality financial and housing counseling and education services to over 10 million clients nationwide.

To help consumers and students of all ages learn the essentials of personal finance, Visa has partnered with leading consumer advocates, educators, and financial institutions to develop the Practical Money Skills program that has reached millions of students across the nation. At practicalmoneyskills.com and whatsmyscore.org, consumers, educators, parents, students and policymakers can access free educational resources, including personal finance articles, games and lesson plans. Visa also works with state and national governments to co-sponsor community-based events such as statewide Financial Football rollouts and the annual Financial Literacy Summit.
